Getting to know "me"

Image
A big thank you to parents for helping organise the "me" bag.  We had a wonderful time of sharing our treasures on Friday.  I am so impressed by how quickly the children in Room 17 are gelling.  No one was afraid to talk about what they had in their "me bag" and everyone listened with interest and respect to others.  Showing and telling about our treasures has helped us get to know and understand each other better in our Room 17 "family". To those who have not yet had a turn and would like one, bring your bag for Friday this week and we can share a few more. Again, thanks for your wonderful support parents. Here are a few photos from Friday's sharing session.

Kia ora Whanau We hope you have had a great weekend! whether you've been getting out on an adventure with the family, taking time to relax, or are rushed off your feet, brace yourself for another busy week ahead! Last week, the students had a fantastic time swimming with Henk, enjoying learning more about their Chromebooks, getting their green ticks on Maths Whizz, and becoming more familiar with classroom routines. It was awesome to see our Year 6 Leaders recognised during the Commissioning Ceremony, which I’m sure was inspiring to our Year 3’s. This week: - Swimming every day.   Week 4 Notices Bonjour everyone. I trust you have had a lovely weekend, we have truly been blessed with fabulous weather. It sure was a topsy turvy week with the country changing lockdown levels. We were so relieved to be at Level 2 and to still be able to work alongside our learners. It is a nice feeling knowing that we are now down to Level 1. Ash Wednesday was celebrated with a beautiful Liturgy in our school hall last week. We got to meet our new parish priest Fr Thomas. No doubt he is going to deliver the Gospel to us in an engaging and meaningful way. Our students have made a promise during Lent to try and give up some kind of treat such as ice cream or chocolate. It would be interesting to see how strong their willpower is. Watch this space. We also had our beginning of the year mass in the church celebrating our new families. It was lovely to see some parents come to mass. What's on this week:  There is swimming every day this week. Please make sure your child has their t

Beginning of Lent

Image
Yesterday we learned about Shrove Tuesday and made pancakes to enjoy for morning tea. Today is Ash Wednesday which begins the season of Lent, a time of fasting and prayer.  It is one of the most important Holy days in the Liturgical calendar.  We had a lovely Ash Wednesday Liturgy in the hall where we received the ashes on our foreheads. We have each made a promise of something we are going to do more of, begin to do or give up for the season of Lent.

Mufti day tomorrow

Image
We have a mufti Day on Friday (tomorrow) and ask that children bring a gold coin. The proceeds of the mufti day will be donated to Apanui School which is the school in Whakatane that had a fire earlier on this week. The theme is House Colours so children come dressed in their House colours.  Here is a list just in case children are not sure which house they are in. MacKillop - blue Pompallier - green Mill Hill - Red Whakaue - yellow There is also the usual sausage sizzle and Juicies. Please remember to bring in your holiday reading log.  It is the draw at assembly tomorrow. -  If you have lost yours, just write the books you've read on a piece on paper with your name and class on it.

EPIC

Image
We had a wonderful time in Room 17 discovering EPIC today.  It is a digital reading platform that has many books for them to choose from.  They were very excited and coped well. I thought I'd put some instructions up in case someone wants to go on at home and can't remember how to get on. Google EPIC and click on Epic login. Choose "Students and educators" It will take you to this. Click on Mrs Tiedt's class or enter the class code which is xer1173 They will then see the whole class, find their name and click on it and they are ready to start browsing for a book.  Have fun and enjoy reading.
